The simplest description of global warming involves the greenhouse effect due to increased levels of carbon in the atmosphere. To tell the story, one must then also describe the evolution of carbon in the ocean. Atmospheric warming is well understood, and more recently also ocean acidification. What is less appreciated is the longer term consequence of this acidification, which can be illustrated by the solution of two ordinary differential equations.
