The Center for Advanced Studies of Blanes (CEAB) is a research center of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), which depends on the Ministry of Science and Innovation. The CEAB was launched in October 1985 and currently focuses its research on ecology and biology of organisms of both both inland waters and marine ecosystems. The research carried out in the CEAB general aims to identify the diversity of organisms and understand their functions and interactions in nature, and the application of this knowledge in the use and rational management of the resources of our planet and prediction of responses to environmental changes. This is done through a wide range of studies and approaches ranging from biochemistry and genetic composition of organisms to the structure and dynamics of populations and ecosystems.
